Asheville to Tails Creek Valley

A Weekend Getaway from Asheville, in a Quieter Corner of the Blue Ridge

About 2 hours 45 minutes south — a private cabin on 50+ acres, wineries and orchards minutes from the door.

Quick answer

The Barn at Haynes Hill is about 2 hours 45 minutes south of Asheville — the Georgia side of the Blue Ridge Mountains near Ellijay. For Asheville guests looking to try a different corner of the same mountain range, the North Georgia foothills deliver quieter towns, easier booking, and a legitimate wine and orchard scene. 50+ private acres, three bedrooms plus a bunk room, on-property trails and pond, fire pit, panoramic mountain views. Direct-book only. Check availability, see the property, or read the luxury cabin overview.

Asheville to North Georgia a different Blue Ridge

Asheville locals already live in the mountains, so the case for driving south has to be sharper than 'go see the mountains.' The pitch: the Georgia side of the Blue Ridge is quieter, cheaper, and has a wine and apple-orchard scene that the North Carolina mountains don't really match. Ellijay is the Apple Capital of Georgia — full stop. The wine trail (Engelheim, Cartecay, Cartecay River Vineyards, Ott Farms) has been putting out serious bottles for a decade now.

The route from Asheville is I-26 west to I-40, then US-74 down through Cherokee and Andrews, then GA-515 east through Ellijay. About 2 hours 45 minutes without traffic — a real drive, but one that lands you somewhere genuinely different from any North Carolina mountain town.

This is a 3-night play, not a 2-night. Once you're this far south you want time in the cabin, time in the wineries, and a full Saturday to not think about the drive back.

What's different down here

The wine + orchard scene

Engelheim, Cartecay Vineyards, and Mercier Orchards anchor a scene NC doesn't have. Fall is peak; spring is quieter and beautiful.

50+ private acres

10× the land of the average 'secluded' cabin in the market. No neighbors in sight or sound.

Different mountains, same range

Same Blue Ridge, but the Georgia foothills feel more agricultural, quieter, and less booked-out than the NC side.

Direct-book only

No Airbnb, no VRBO, no aggregator fees. One owner, one cabin.

Downtown Blue Ridge + Scenic Railway

25 min from the cabin. The train, East Main Street, restaurants — a compact walkable downtown.

Toccoa River + Lake Blue Ridge

River and reservoir both 30 min away. Tubing, fly fishing, paddleboarding, boat days.
